Viktar Dashkevich is a candidate with great experience. He participated in the elections to the local councils thrice, to the House of Representatives – once, and was an observer many times.

- I know the background story very well and can assure you there are no elections in Belarus. All the deputies are not elected, but appointed from the above. Each time I ran as a candidate, I was the spare one. Each district had one candidate, while mine had two. They always appointed someone to interfere with me.

This time the situation repeated, said the activist.

- There are 24 electoral districts and 25 initiative groups registered. It is evident, that mine in the spare one. Rural council has 12 electoral districts and 14 initiative groups. Mine two are the spare ones.

The candidates who were nominated by the official authorities to contradict Viktar Dashkevich – the Head of the local economic department and the former school principal.

Viktar Dashkevich is convinced that this year it will be extremely difficult to collect signatures.

- The atmosphere now is the one of the 1937. The only difference is that people are repressed in a quiet way. The people are afraid of everything. They are even afraid to put their signature, let alone being in the initiative group. The pensioners are also afraid, as they say, not for themselves, but for their children.

- I am a pensioner myself, - says Viktar Dashkevich, - but I will continue struggling in spite of being morally hurt many times. There’s always a chance for the truth.
