THE BCD: 173 CANDIDATES FILED THE DOCUMENTS AT 226 ELECTORAL DISTRICTS

More than 20 potential candidates had to give up their plans to participate in the electoral campaign due to the authorities’ repressions. The most outrageous case are the following: the situation with Andrus Kasheuski from Zhodzina, who was illegally detained for 15 days and his documents for registration were declined; the cases of Mikhail Valasach and Sviatlana Belavus in Novalukoml, who where threatened to be fired; the incident with the inhabitants of Minsk Zmitser Butenka, who was intimidated by the KGB, and Maria Kadolka, who collected more than 150 signatures but was forced to give up her candidacy due to the pressure at work. The documents of Vera Kulip from Grodna were lost at the elections commission of Davatary. There were also repressions against the potential candidates who had to withdraw their candidacy in Babruisk, Magileu, Brest, Kalinkavichy, Lepel.

 

The total quantity of signatures collected by the BCD potential candidates is 28 600. Most of them were collected in Minsk, Vitsebsk, Babruisk and Gomel.
