THE BCD IS A DEMOCRATIC PARTY NO. 1 WITH REGARDS TO THE QUANTITY OF POTENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR DEPUTIES
As we informed earlier, 173 potential candidates for deputies of the Belarusian Christian Democracy filed the necessary set of documents with the collected signatures to the elections commissions at 226 electoral districts. The documents for registration in the regional deputy councils were filed at 48 electoral districts, in the city deputy councils – at 102 electoral districts, in the district deputy councils – at 55 electoral districts, settlement deputy councils – at 3 electoral districts and rural deputy councils – at 18 electoral districts.
As the BCD is not officially registered, all the candidates for deputies were appointed by collecting signatures of the voters.
More than 20 potential candidates of the BCD were forced to give up their candidacy due to the authorities’ repressions.
As for other parties, the Chairperson of the Central Elections Commission Lidzia Yarmoshyna informed at the press-conference in Minsk on March 17, that 591 potential candidates of the parties were appointed at this year’s local elections.
The result of the opposition parties are as follows:
The Belarusian Left Party “Fair World” - 126,
The United Civic Party — 94,
The BPF Party — 35,
The Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) — 32,
The Belarusian Green Party — 5,
Belarusian Social-Democratic Hramada — 2.
Only the pro-authoritative party the Communist party of Belarus appointed more potential candidates than the BCD among all the political parties — 207.
- The Belarusian Christian Democracy is only one year old as a party, and the results speak for themselves, - commented the BCD leader Paval Sieviarynets - Christian Democracy as an idea unites the most pro-democratic Belarusian people now. In spite of repressions, 173 Christian democrats continue the electoral campaign. Only those who fight can win!
