The rally gathered more than a thousand people, including the Co-Chairmen of the BCD Paval Sieviarynets, Vital Rymasheuski, Alaksiej Shein and Heorhi Dzmitruk, the Executive Secretary of the Party Dzianis Sadouski and dozens of BCD members.


There were also the leader of the movement "Razam" Viachaslau Siuchyk, the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences, the liquidator Ivan Nikitchanka, the Chairman of Belarusian Social Democratic Party (People's Hramada) Mikalaj Statkevich, the leader of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich, writers Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu and Henadz Buraukin, the artist Ales Marachkin, the representatives of the Russian organization “Oborona” ("Defence").


Another feature of the current action was that the participants got to the place through the metal detectors. Everyone was checked by the police, including journalists and equipment. The police said all the future actions of the opposition will be checked this way.


The organizers of handed out informational materials "Chernobyl Way - 2010" containing information about the action and how to protect themselves from radiation – signed by Ivan Nikitchanka and the opposition politicians, who appealed to the nation on the anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy.


At the beginning of the meeting, near the building of the Academy of Sciences, the famous bard Andrei Melnikau sang several songs dedicated to Chernobyl.


Vital Rymasheuski gave a speech announcing the start of the national campaign to protect the Belarusians from extinction.


As planned, the mourning procession went across the streets of the city to the Chernobyl chapel, where people put flowers to the monument to the victims of Chernobyl. People also put the white-red-white flag on the flowers, lit candles. After a minute of silence Vital Rymasheuski read a prayer. People sang the anthem "God Almighty".
