CDU of Ukraine appeals to European community in connection with BCD
Volodymyr Stretovych, member of the Ukrainian Parliament and one of the leaders of the Christian Democratic Union, has appealed to the European community with a request to facilitate the registration of the BCD. Let us remind you that the founders of the Belarusian Christian Democracy have recently learnt that the Ministry of Justice once again refused to register the party. It was their third attempt to receive state registration.
“The Belarusian Christian Democracy has been trying to obtain a legal status under the Belarusian law for two years. I express my solidarity with the founders of the BCD. I am ready to appeal to the Belarusian authorities with a request to respect people’s right to freedom of association and to register the BCD”, Mr Stretovych wrote in his letter to Wilfried Martens, chairman of the European People’s Party.
Moreover, Volodymyr Stretovych draws European politicians’ attention to the fact that article 193.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, which establishes criminal responsibility for participation in the activities of an unregistered political party, foundation, civil or religious organization, and envisages two years of imprisonment for such activities, violates fundamental human rights and must be abolished.
Volodymyr Stretovych asks the leader of the EPP to take measures at the European level to support the Belarusian Christian Democrats in their desire to obtain the legal right to carry out their activities as a political party, which aims at spreading the Christian Democratic values and ideas.
