V. Rymasheuski: Europe must be firm and uncompromising
On 2 November, presidential contender from the BCD Vital Rymasheuski met with Guido Westerwelle and Radosław Sikorski, foreign ministers of Germany and Poland respectively. Mr Rymasheuski came to the meeting along with some other presidential candidates.
These high-profile European diplomats visited Belarus in connection with the upcoming presidential elections.
“Europe must be firm and uncompromising in its relations with Lukashenka. It should not recognize ‘elections’ based on fraud and unlawfulness”, says Vital Rymasheuski.
“In our opinion, the Kremlin cannot be regarded as a positive factor for our country’s democratization. Every agreement with Lukashenka will be broken: the regime will deceive European politicians just like he deceived both Russia and the Belarusian people.
Supporting the democratic alternative is the only way to the democratization and genuine independence of Belarus. Fair politics will not be established in Belarus until new people come to power. European civilization, which was founded upon Christian values, should defend the truth and liberty”, remarked the Christian Democratic candidate for presidency.
In his interview with the Suddeutsche Zeitung on 30 October the German Minister of Foreign Affairs declared that he intended to convince Alyaksandr Lukashenka not to apply any repression during the presidential campaign and the elections.
Mr Westerwelle says that in the future Belarus will have much better relations with Europe in case it chooses the democratic way of development.
