OFFICIAL HISTORIANS WITNESSED IN THE CASE OF DAMAGING LENIN’S MONUMENT IN NAVAHRADAK

We remind herewith that the local monument to Lenin was poured over with green paint on the night of November 6-7. Youth activists of the BCD were detained in connection with this fact. The actions of Jury Kazak were considered as “purposeful actions which break the public order and are especially cynical”. The damage caused by the activist “with an aim to insult the civic interests and historical traditions using paint material” was calculated, the total amount is 3.740 thousand roubles.

We would like to stress that the investigation claims the actions of Jury Kazak as especially cynical because “he actively set himself against the society, showed obvious disrespect to the norms of behavior accepted in this society, as well as traditions and historical values of the society”, “as Jury Kazak expected that his actions would arise public revolt in particular during the holiday”, - stated in the case.

Jury Kazak addressed to independent historians who would help to define whether the Day of October revolution in Russia is a holiday, and whether the monument to Lenin is a historical value to Belarusian people.

Part 1 of the Article 339 prescribes punishment in the form of 3 years of imprisonment, forcible hard labor at the specialized facility, or a fine.
