Pressure on Volha Kavalkova increases
On 12 May 2020 the “independent” Belarusian court restricted her in the right to travel abroad and in the right to drive her car.
The judge decided that to fulfill Volha's obligations to pay fines in the amount of 2500 Belarusian rubles, as punishment for taking part in the protests against integration with Russia in Minsk in December 2019, previously taken measures in the form of the car arrest, arrest of the apartment, deductions from salaries, blocking bank cards, restrictions on mobile communications and voluntary payment of 1350 Belarusian rubles, were not enough.
BCD co-chair stated that "the lack of justice is precisely one of the reasons why I am in the opposition. I want to live in a state of law, where competent, responsible and honest people hold position of judges, where everyone is equal before the law and the law has supremacy."
