Belarusian authorities violate fundamental rights of citizens
The National Council of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party met on 21 January 2012 and adopted the statement against the persecution of the BCD activists by the state authorities:
“We, the Belarusian Christian Democrats, express our resentment over the mass repressions launched the Belarusian authorities against the founders of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party, in particular, Mr. Aleh Aksenau, the deputy head the BCD organisation in Mahileu region. He was illegally dismissed from work at the Mahileu Construction Plant. Similar problems encountered also other members of the Party.
The BCD member Valery Hancharenka, located in Bahusheusk Regional Tuberculosis Hospital went on hunger strike to protest against the appalling conditions of patients. On the eight day of the hunger strike he was transferred to the psychiatric ward. The hospital personnel started to give him psychotropic injections by force.
We state that these actions violate the fundamental rights of the Belarusian citizens to freedom of associations and political parties. We demand that the Belarusian authorities immediately stop the repressions! We urge the Belarusian society and the international community to show active solidarity with all who suffer from the repressions”.
